Good Grief
According to the Urban Dictionary, good grief is a term used to describe a situation that is unbelievable, shocking, or something that is hard to imagine though it seems to happen on a potentially recurring basis.
It seems like Mallory and I have these moments in life where situations seem like they are continually reoccurring, and there’s no end in sight. Namely, it seems like the enemy is relentless in his attacks against us. It seems we can’t go one week without a setback, a health issue, division, or something else that tries to take us away or hinder us from God’s will being accomplished in our lives.
With that being said, I want to bring up three things that I feel are very important to our progress through these trials and how we are taking steps to overcome each setback.
1. We are able to recognize when it’s happening.
This wasn’t always the case. We would go on with our routine and basically spin our wheels to no avail. As we grow in our walk, our faith, and our ability to fight through spiritual warfare, we are getting to the heart of the issue and having God take over immediately.
2. We turn to prayer first.
As we grow as Christians, we know that we cannot fight these battles alone. When we acknowledge these battles we are facing, we make it a point to begin praying for these situations and listening for God’s solution to the matter at hand. We pray for help, for answers, for guidance, for results, and if there’s a need for change, we pray for that as well. We know that sometimes we could be praying when we should be enduring, so we also pray for vision.
3. We know we are doing something right.
If the enemy is this hell bent on these relentless attacks, God must be up to something in our lives. So, in prayer, we ask God to reveal to us what we are doing that is advancing his kingdom and causing the enemy to attack, so we can continue that walk even at the expense of having to endure this constant warfare. The truth is we would rather be in battle and with God, rather than comfortable and against God. With the former, we have no doubt that we are following his will and his way.
Ephesians 6:13
Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
