Never Leave
Deuteronomy 31:6
New International Version (NIV)
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
We can all think of times we were shook with fear, restlessness, and anxiety. With the flesh, it’s easy to for those feelings to creep in and take over your body. Attacking your emotions is a tactic of Satan as well.
I wrote this song for reassurance and hope in my own life. This is what the majority of inspiration of my songs come from. I feel like if I’m dealing with these issues, I know others are out there dealing with the same things.
On my own, I should have known
Doubt confusing, naming, blaming
In the distance, on my own
A still small voice I hear proclaiming
1 Kings 19:11-13
New King James Version (NKJV)
11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.
13 So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
This is the reassurance I was speaking of. And the chorus comes from these scriptures.
Hebrews 13:5
New International Version (NIV)
5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
These are both things that I struggle with, and just by reading the word, and hearing these verses, I’m blessed with a peace that I can get through this.
This is why I feel it’s so important to put these scriptures in song to help hide these words in our heart, and to reassure us in times of need.
Psalm 119:11
New International Version (NIV)
11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
This is why I wrote songs like Matthew, Proverbs, and Hallelujah, so these songs could reassure people while helping them memorize the scriptures.
When we are at our lowest low, we can just hum the melodies and call to mind the lyrics so that the hope and reassurance of these verses can flow through us and help comfort as well.
More than a mother loves her own child, God loves us abundantly more. And that’s reassurance you can keep in your heart forever.
Isaiah 49:15
New International Version (NIV)
Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!
Amen.
