Nomad
John 14:2-3
English Standard Version (ESV)
2 In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
Boxes and shadows
Too many together
These walls they had pictures
Will this last forever?
We don’t have much time
How far do we climb?
Rooms are made empty
Too often to count them
The changes are plenty
No glory without them
Press on toward the goal
Give life to my soul
It’s one thing to realize you are in the midst of a trial, but it’s another thing to try and grow from it while being humbled by it.
Mallory and I know that I am currently dealing with several things in my life that I need to sacrifice in order to move to the next level of what God wants me to do.
I’ve been writing these devotionals while on vacation in Atlanta, GA just after the start of the NOMAD tour, and I feel like in my time here, I’ve cleared my head, made some decisions I needed to make, and have been deep in prayer, while ultimately drawing closer to God.
This leads me to my next scripture which I used some of the text in the lyrics above:
Philippians 3:14
New International Version (NIV)
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
This is very important to me. Right now, there are defining moments in my life. The man I choose to be now is the man I will be for the rest of my life. I’m making strides and progressing, but I always wonder if it’s enough.
I’m not just pressing on toward a career goal. It has become so much more than that. I’m trying to be the best version of myself I can be. That is the ultimate goal here. With that being said, if there’s some things we need to sacrifice in order to do that, so be it.
That’s the whole point of this song and this album. It’s very hard, but we are slowly removing comforts from our lives and pursuing what God requires of us. It’s the only way to truly follow his will, and as I’ve been saying, that is where our home is... in God’s will.
This song rings true in my mind every time I hear it. God promises us comfort in heaven, even if we can’t find comfort on earth. That’s what I’m pushing toward. Again, it’s the theme of this song and this album.
It also reigns true in some of my favorite hymns:
My Jesus, I Love Thee:
In mansions of glory and endless delight,
I’ll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright;
I’ll sing with the glittering crown on my brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, ’tis now.
Old Rugged Cross:
Then he'll call me someday
To my home far away
Where his glory forever I'll share
Victory In Jesus:
I heard about a mansion
He has built for me in glory.
And I heard about the streets of gold
Beyond the crystal sea;
About the angels singing,
And the old redemption story,
And some sweet day I'll sing up there
The song of victory.
